Despite the all too obvious technical deficiencies of this unprofessional tape, we still feel that this document is of inestimable value. What is also most unusual here is the fact that this was the only recital in which Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli hummed - and even sang - along here and there during sections of particular intensity. By releasing this momentuous document of Benedetti Michelangeli's last concert, the Memoria ABM label wishes to preserve for posteriority the spirit of perseverance and tenacity with which Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli pursued his life-long musical quest. Our edition attempts to reveal how this quest stamped and characterized ABM's artistic development in its full breadth and profundity.
