Sonatas for Organ

The historical organ of San Niccolò of Treviso built by the famous Venetian organ builder Gaetano Callido in 1778 and organist Andrea Marcon are the protagonists of the second Compact Disc dedicated to the documentation of the historical organs of Treviso.

The Callido organ After the Nacchini organ of Santa Maria dei Battuti and another on the Pescetti organ of Polcenigo with the performance of works by Alessandro Scarlatti, it is now the turn of the most famous organ builder of the 18th century, a pupil of Nacchini and author of more than 400 organs spread over the whole area of the “Serenissima” (from Veneto to the Marches and Dalmatia). Some scholars speak of Callido instruments even in Constantinople, Alexandria in Egypt and London.

Domenico Scarlatti The present recording project in addition focuses its attention on a great italian composer of the 18th century, Domenico Scarlatti, and can be seen as a sequel to the monographic CD dedicated to the works of Alessandro Scarlatti (father of Domenico) recorded on the organ of Polcenigo.

The sonatas for organ Domenico Scarlatti is noted above all for his harpsichord sonatas (more than 500), of which many and varied recordings exist in the recording market. But some of the early sonatas prompt one to think of an organ attribution, which is here proposed for the first time ever.

The CD is thus of particular interest both in terms of its musical profile and as a record of the prestigious Callido organ.
