The Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (SCB) is a unique forum for Early Music education: concerts, workshops, research libraries, symposia, all within a multi-lingual studies program including an international faculty. Internationally recognized as a center for Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Music, the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis is a branch of the Music Academy of Basel (Switzerland). It features an international faculty of performers and musicologists and attracts students from all over the world.
The SCB has been founded in 1933 by Paul Sacher (1906-1999). The cellist and gambist August Wenziger (1905-1996) as well as the violinist and pedagogue Ina Lohr (1903-1983) did influence the development of the SCB since its beginning. The SCB has provided a creative atmosphere for performance and research, the results of which continue to be published in the "Basler Jahrbuch für Historische Musikpraxis", Festschriften, "Prattica Musicale" and the "Documenta" series of recordings.
