Eddie «Lockjaw» Davis live at The Old Widder Bar in Zurich

Jazz at the Widderbar, well-known to the many friends of jazz culture far and wide, practically originated with Eddi «Lockjaw» Davies in 1981. During a matinée, Eddie became not only fascinated by the music itself, but also by the atmosphere and the very attentive audience then present, urging me to help establish Jazz at the Widderbar events as a permanent institution. He felt quite attached to the club himself, due to his many performances here, visibly taking pains to arrange numerous contacts between jazz musicians and myself. The very first recordings ever released under the heading of "Live at the Widderbar" were realized with the help of Eddie Davis too. On November 3, 1986, «Lockjaw» quite unexpectedly died. One of the last great tenor saxophonists of the Swing and Mainstream era has left us all too soon. We all are very greatful to him.
