Goldberg

5 Goldberg-Stars

In this compilation of pieces included on other prize-winning discs by the Sonatori ar some of their most felicitous interpretations. In the case of Vivaldi, it is infrequent these dayss to find a version that attracts attention. On the other hand, these Sonatori have the gift of interpreting his music impeccably, as if in a recently pressed suit. It is a well integrated instrumental ensemble that gives its readings with more than security, with aplom, assured in a sphere they dominate. At a time like the present, when absolutely everything is subject to revision, they do not ask for allowances to be made, nor do they appear to go in search of novelty or a different version. They simply affirm that this music «goes like this». Whether or not you agree, this is not commonly found, and it is necessary (almost indispensable) to rely on references like this in order to «progress». An excellent soloist from a new batch and a chamber group that is characterised by its virtuosity guarantee this title. They exploit the full and weighty sonority of Vivaldi's Concerto in due cori with the highest quality of timbre, warm and velvety. They pay regard to the antiphonal, stereophonic style which they make shine so well, playing with diverse colourings. Lastly, they enjoy the pure and calm sound of some moments on track 20, in other parts of the disc reveal passages with dialogues on different planes of sonority (solo violin, chamber group, basso continuo). In the case of Carlo Farina, they cause astonishment with the vanguard effects of tracks 27-29. This disc entitled Concerto Stravagante, offers Farina's work «Capriccio stravagante». But I think there is no extravagance: what this disc is, in the best senses, is a «caprice».
