Claudius Herrmann was born in 1967, in Mannheim, Germany. After first studies at Hans Adorneit in Mannheim, in 1986 he began studies at the Lübeck Conservatory under David Geringas. A year later, he joined the Piatigorsky Seminar in Los Angeles, USA, with a fellowship. In 1988, the German National Education Institute gave him scholarship for further studies. At the fourth International Brahms Competition in Hamburg 1990, he won the special prize for the best interpretation of Brahms Double Concerto. Years 1990/91, Claudius Herrmann served as principal cellist at the orchestra Lübeck, Germany. And since 1991 he is principal cellist at the Zurich Opera Orchestra in Switzerland. He is a member of the Zurich String Trio and the Amati Quartett.
