The circle of friends of Johannes Brahms is distinguished by its exceptional concentration of highly gifted musicians. It is no wonder that, with the exception of Robert Schumann, these friends remained in the shadow of the great Master. However, the unmistakeable talent and independent merit of the composers Heinrich von Herzogenberg (1843-1900) and Gustav Uwe Jenner (1865-1920) blossomed through regular contact with Brahms and led to interesting results, not only for Musicologists. Recent rediscoveries of their music have revealed significantly enriching contributions to the chamber music literature.
