This new release comprises Niccolò Castiglioni's entire oeuvre for the oboe, written between 1960 and 1990:
«Morceaux Lyriques» (1983) for Oboe and Orchestra «Grüezi» (1990), Romanzetta for Oboe Solo «Daleth» (1981), Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano «Alef» (1967) for Oboe Solo «Gymel» (1960) for Flute and Piano «Rima» (1984) for Oboe and Piano «Filastrocca» (1989) for Wind Quintet «Dolce Refrigerium» (1984) for Piano Solo
Castiglioni's works stand out for their striking spontaneity and musical humor, which appeal to the listener directly and with great immediacy, eschewing all academic conformism. His musical idiom is honest and clear. He was inspired by the virtuosity of interpreters such as Omar Zoboli, the Quintetto Arnold and Heinz Holliger, and moved by their love for their instrument. He dedicated works to them which brought the specific qualities of instrument, performer and composer into a fruitful interplay and gave rise to new, often surprising and unique sound experiences.
Throughout his life, Niccolò Castiglioni dedicated himself not only to composition, but also to the study of nature as well as of medieval philosophy and mysticism, which lastingly influenced his compositional oeuvre.
