The Sonatori de la Gioiosa was founded in 1983 in Treviso, y city that had been part of the borderland of the Venetian republic since the 15th century. The ensemble is considered one of the most select Italian ensembles in the field of performing music from the Baroque period. Its members perfected their talents with leading performers of ancient music at Basel’s famous Schola Cantorum, London’s Royal College of Music, and Geneva’s Centre de Musique Ancienne. Their repertoire spans from Gabrieli to Mozart, with special emphasis on the great Venetian tradition of the 17th and 18th centuries. Instrumentally, their interest has been focused on composers such as Fontana, Castello, Marini, Legrenzi and Vivaldi. In addition, the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca have often taken on the vocal-instrumental works of Monteverdi, Cavalli and Stradella. The Orchestra has participated in important European festivals: it has played in Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Prague, Lisbon, Barcelona, Geneva, Bern, Luganom, Klagenfurt, York, Dresden, Berlin and the major Italian cities.
