The Finnish pianist Tuiya Hakkila studied piano at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki an at the Paris Conservatory. She also studied the fortepiano with Malcolm Bilson in the USA. Since 1987 she has been teaching at her alma mater in Helsinki. After receiving the first prizes there, in Tunbridge, England, and in Bordeaux, she has developed a flourishing concert career in many European countries and in America. She has premiered works by composers from Finland and other countries and has recorded on modern and historical instruments for the FUGA label.
