Marie Nishiyama studied piano and then harpsichord at the Tokyo College of Music. She consequently undertook postgraduate studies with J.-A. Bötticher, A. Staier and J. Christensen at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. At the same institution she developped her skills as a harpist with H. Rosenzweig and additionally with M. Galassi at the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano. In 1997 she won first prize at the Early Music Competition in Kofu (Japan). She has worked as a harpsichordist and harpist with such well-known figures and ensembles as René Jacobs and the Ferrara Ensemble. Her first solo harpsichord CD contains virtuoso Spanish music.
